What can I do if my new IBAN is not accepted for bank transfers? Diego C. 04 March 2022 09:50 Updated IBAN acceptance in the SEPA Area Each VIABUY account comes with an individual IBAN that starts with a two-digit country code. In the past, we have provided all customers with an IBAN that started with “DE” as we used a German provider. After switching to a better and more reliable provider, which is based in Luxembourg, all IBANs now start with “LU”. You can use your personal IBAN to load your account or send money via SEPA bank transfer. According to current EU legislation, it does not matter whether your IBAN starts with “DE”, “LU”, “FR” or any other country in the European Economic Area. Therefore, your IBAN shall be accepted across the SEPA region. What can I do if my IBAN is not accepted? If your IBAN is rejected because of its two-digit country code in the beginning, you are a victim of so-called IBAN discrimination. In this case, we advise you to do the following: Contact the other party – authorities, organisations, employers – and inform them that they are violating European law (EU regulation No 260/2012) If your IBAN is still not accepted, please file a complaint at your relevant national authority If you are still facing any problems or have further questions, please reach out to us via email, and we’ll do our best to find a solution that works for you.
